Collecting Conkers

Now that the heatwave's over we can put away the paddling pool and indulge in more seasonal activities. I love the beginning of autumn, when it's still light in the evenings and the days are sunny and bright. Today we went to collect conkers, find the biggest and shiniest to put into E's basket.

  5. I am such a novice at this whole Autumn thing, I didn't know they were called conkers. Are they chestnuts, that you can eat? Here we have two types, one that you can and one that you can't eat. But I don't know which one is which!
My girl is forever collecting acorns, and I find them inside her shoes (ouch!) and in every pocket. There is invariably an acorn in the washing machine each and every load I do!
Love that you've reminded me of the leaf crown too :)

  6. I love the feel of a just 'hatched' conker, so smooth. Autumn does lead to the hugest nature collection of all in our house and I think it's mostly me that picks it all up, I can't blame the children!
